Maui Ocean Center
Our aquarium, the Maui Ocean Center, is a very enjoyable place to visit and we go fairly frequently because it is always changing. It is totally devoted to the waters around Hawaii - both the surrounding reefs and the deep ocean.
We took several friends - Kenn Berkheiser, Kae Cameron, and Kenn's daughter, Mary Henning - a couple of weeks ago to enjoy the displays in the current format. The MOC is small enough to enjoy rather than being overwhelming.
The small reef displays were gorgeous with all the coral colors and the variety of fish and other things swimming about in the well-kept viewing windows. We saw things that we were familier with from our snorkeling experiences, but there were things we had never encountered before....UGLY.
Then there were the really big guys.....many varieties of sharks that inhabit our waters......
Mary, who is an experienced SCUBA diver got downright excited about seeing a big one because it was behind glass.
The coral displays were outstanding. The colors were illuminated just as they would be in the shallow ocean.
Caren was enthralled by the beauty as was I.
