Maui on Our Minds

We live on Maui, a unique little volcanic island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Both of us have lived here for over ten years and consider it our home with no desire or intention of leaving. We are very active in the community and this BLog will attempt to share with you many of our experiences in this beautiful place.

Halloween party to end all Halloween parties!

It was a great pre-Halloween party Saturday night to set the mood for the rest of the weekend activities, culminating in the Mardi Gras of the Pacific celebration in Lahaina town on Monday.

The beautiful home was decorated in lavish Addams Family mansion style both inside and out, only more so. In fact, it would have easily put the Addmas family to great shame.

First we were greeted at the elaborate front gate by a rather anorexic doorman who was just arriving himself. Seems he had a hard time getting up for the event.

Then we were greeted by our hosts, Monica and Max, (Christian, our other host was busy inside with the guests who had arrived earlier) along with their trusted retainer, Igor the Gatekeeper, who checked us out and made sure we were in the mood for a good time.

Then, once inside the creaking front door, we were once again greeted by a friendly, if a little weird looking butler, named Jeeves, of course, who took our things.......what there was of them.
Madam Lynn, the fortune teller, and Wonder Woman, were the first to be greeted and checked. Jeeves seemed particularly happy - notice the glimmer of a smile on his face - to dutifully perform his task.

Then the beautiful drag queen, D. or Dee, as the case may be, sidled up to Jeeves to insure being searched for weapons of mass destruction.

Then the Kiheian - half leopard and half phoenix - was greeted by Jeeves and insisted he preen her feathers and stroke her fur with Judge Judy presiding.

Luckily there was a doctor in the house, even though he was a gynocologist, not a cardiologist, because Jeeves, after his arduous task, needed a little TLC since his defibrulator didn't kick in - must have been a low battery caused by all the dampness down, down in his quarters.

While we were passing the greetings and inspections at the entrance to the mansion, the caterer was busy overseeing the last minute detail.

The "Coffinteria" layout was a sumptuous spread

The deviled eggs were finger-lickin' good, the cake quite heady, the dips a no brainer, the candy eye-popping, and the crackers were better than a hole in the head.

The S.A.Tans, party coordinators extraordaire, gave the layout a hearty thumbs up (literally) as they approved of their latest effort in their quest for the annual Flaming Pitchfork Award given by the Association of Hellatious Parties.

Wonder Woman found the cake a particularly hairy experience and S.A.Tan thought it was the best Devil's food cake he had had in centuries.....or at least since Emperor Napolean's lady's remark, "let them eat cake."

Wonder Woman was everywhere. And, as usual, she was shedding a little light on the subject.
She must have been hired as security for the party. She met all the guests, probably checking to see if they might have hidden an atomic bomb, some other weapons of mass destruction or worse......

Of course, the ever-trustworthy Jeeves remained at his post without a whimper or protest as Wonder Woman assured him that he was doing a great job.

But, perhaps the hero of the day was the gynocologist/wannabe cardiologist who kept close tabs on the pulses of the security personnel. Hey, its a tough job, but someone...........Oh, You know.

Then he discussed some serious medical issues and doctor/patient priviledges with another guest.

Lots of people decided to hang around....some longer than others......but with the approacing bewitching hour, many of us decided to head home.

And bid a fond farewell to our host and hostess for a wonderful party and a heavenly evening. Heavenly?????

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

PS Some hung around too long.
